Milan - 1 Porto - 0
Milan: Dida; Simic, Nesta, Maldini, Pancaro; Gattuso, Pirlo, Rui Costa (Cafu 85), Seedorf (Ambrosini 70); Inzaghi, Shevchenko (Rivaldo 75)
Porto: Vitor Baia; Paulo Ferreira, Jorge Costa, Ricardo Carvalho, Ricardo Costa; Alenitchev (Ricardo Fernandes 75), Maniche, Costinha (Bosingwa 67); Deco; Derlei, McCarthy (Jankauskas 59)
The goal came in the 19th minute, a fantastic pass from Rui Costa translated into a superb header by Sheva. Poor Sheva had to be substituted in the second half due to pain in his adductors. Got me a look at Cafu though. Gattuso was his usual bulldog, unstoppable self. He did get a bit of cramp at one point and got the ref to massage his foot. LOL.
I haven't seen a Porto match in a long time so besides Vitor Baia (YUM!) this team was unfamiliar to me. Baia looks fit if a bit thin. But this team really impressed me, they weren't planning on laying down and letting Milan prance over them. Deco, Derlei, Bosigwa and Jankauskas made some impressive attempts on Milan's defence. However Maldini and Nesta were in outstanding form today as was goalkeeper Dida who made a miraculous save against Bosigwa in the final few minutes.
The only real disappointment for me was that Pippo Inzaghi couldn't seem to capitalise on the several chances he had. Pipster, I love you babe, but the new hairstyle just isn't working...leave it long next time. Still no one can say he wasn't a busy lad, breaking through the Porto defence time and time again.
Very happy to see Maldini lift that cup, love to see him smile. There was a sweet slashy moment when Rui Costa hugged Sheva and appeared to peck his cheek. I heard that there was a Nesta/Maldini hug too, I hope it was caught on film somewhere!!!!!!
