Heyyyy Muuum!

Mum had her class again today and the kiddies were sharing stories about the past week. A pair of twins had the most interesting news to tell. Apparently, they had gone to their bedroom to put something away and heard scuffling noises coming from under the bed. They peered under the bed and discovered, of all things, a baby alligator; approximately three feet long.

Apparently, alligator and twins gazed at each other for a bit; neither willing to back down. Having a twin sibling must be an empowering thing because I know that I'd be running for the door should I ever discover an alligator under my bed. Eventually, the kids realised they should apprise their mother of the animal's presence. I'm told the conversation went something like this:

Twins: "Mum there's an alligator under the bed."
Mother: "I told you two to tidy your room; stop making up stories."
Twins: "But mum there really is an alligator under the bed."
Mother: "Girls!"
Twins: "Can we keep him?"
Mother: "Fine! Yes!" (Probably accompanied by much eye rolling and pleas for patience.)
Twins: "Ok, thanks."
Silence for a minute; then a dragging sound followed by a rush of feet and screams. The mother rushed into the room and found the kids standing on the bed, clinging to each other and very real alligator in a corner of the room, mouth open, tail sliding from side to side. The kids had apparently tried to push the bed aside to get to it and had scared it.

After doing what any responsible mother would; grabbing kids and exiting the room like it was on fire, the mother rounded up her husband and some of his friends. A posse of five good men as they used to say on "Sesame Street." Then, armed with towels, duct tape and a large duffel bag, the men spent the next hour corraling and securing the alligator. Then they bundled him into the bag and took him off to the SPCA. They went on to the hospital after that to be treated for various nicks and bruises. The theory is that the gator was a pet that had been abandoned in the pond near the family's home.

Some Nessie goodness.
