I am thankful that I do not live in California...
Where they have elected the Terminator as their Governor. Pauses silently to contemplate that occurence and shudders.
Not that life here has been a picnic either. On Monday the budget was presented and the police were out in full force throughout the island.
Despite our recent crime problems we're a peaceful, laid back people. Sure, people have been ticked off and wanting more money put into law enforcement and health but placard waving, marching and yelling suffices for us. The police know this and they are usually content to stand and watch while protesters have their say.
Unfortunately, Parliament worked themselves into such a state of paranoia that the police decided to overcompensate. Hundreds of peaceful protesters ended up cooling their heels in prison for the day, even groups that were miles away from the capital city and the silly politicians.
I need to read the stupid budget, I want to see what they intend to spend on education. Apparently, the public school kids (using public to indicate government funded and not the British meaning) aren't up to standard with their reading and maths. I'm not certain if there's always been such a gap between the public and private schools. I'd like to think not but, as the parentals pointed out earlier, the first time I attended public school was for my MA degree. Then they managed to sneak in a mini guilt trip about sacrifice and hard work on behalf of quality schooling and extra tutoring for one's child. Sighs, gave me indigestion.
