I'm torn; part of me hopes that the kid has bear nightmares for the rest of his life but that would probably give him a bad attitude towards animals. Perhaps he'll grow into an animal lover and spend his life trying to make up for the stupidity of his handlers...and perhaps pigs will fly.

that just makes me so sad. usually they can just observe the animal for 14 days to know if they have rabies, or they can just have the kid vaccinated!

Yep, that would be more logical but logic doesn't work with outraged breeders. I think the breeders are going to be charged with neglect so that's one bright spot.
